“Fort Union Through My Eyes” Book
Hardbound and Autographed
Donated By: Paul
Morrison
Opening Bid: $8
Market Value: $34
Buy Out: $41
“The images in this book represent my attempt to
share my impressions and feelings as I have walked and photographed among the
ruins of Fort Union in New Mexico over the past four years. Each time I visit
the area I see something new and wonderful. Adding to my enjoyment, and
hopefully yours, is different cloud formations during each visit. I have
tried to make the sky an important part of the work.
“I would like the viewer to feel the sense of
wonder that I felt. However, each viewer will see something different, and
that is as it should be since each of us has the life experiences that shape
our perception of the world around us.
“I hope you enjoy the images, which I have not
titled so as not to influence your own interpretation.” – Paul Morrison, 2007

Laxalt Book Basket
Donated By: Lorin
Erramouspe Abbey
Opening Bid: $30
Market Value: $122
Buy Out: $146
Don your beret (size small), and enjoy the
quintessential books by the legendary Basque-American writer Robert Laxalt
(1923-2001). This collection includes five of his most prominent works,
including Sweet Promised Land, which depicts his father’s forty seven years as an
immigrant sheepherder in Nevada and his return to the Basque homeland:
Child of the Holy Ghost (hardcover)
Sweet Promised Land (paperback)
A Cup of Tea in Pamplona (paperback)
The Basque Hotel (paperback)
The Land of My Fathers (hardcover)
Laxalt brought Basque identity to the forefront of
those living in the Western States. He learned the Basque work ethic from his
father who did whatever he could to support his family during the Depression.
Laxalt’s mother ran a Basque hotel (called the French Hotel) in Carson City,
and it was there that Laxalt witnessed the significance of the Basque hotels
as a home away from home for the sheepherders. It was at the hotel that they
could speak Basque, play cards, and eat familiar food.
