You may know that Athletic Bilbao only recruits Basque players, players from\u00a0the Basque Country. Inaki was born in Bilbao to parents from Ghana and Liberia. Clearly his parents have pride in their new home, as they named their son Inaki.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/basque-soccer-friendly2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1233 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/basque-soccer-friendly2-150x150.png\" alt=\"basque-soccer-friendly2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Keeping with the soccer theme, there is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idahostatesman.com\/2015\/02\/06\/3631189_basque-soccer-in-boise-what-we.html?rh=1\">update on the effort to bring Basque soccer to Boise<\/a>. The effort, lead by Argia Beristain, has secured participation by both sides. The teams have not been finalized, though it is likely to be the same Athletic Bilbao against a MLS team from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, Portland, or Vancouver). And, a date has been set: July 29! More details can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.basquesoccerfriendly.com\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1232 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-22-at-2.42.25-PM-150x142.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-02-22 at 2.42.25 PM\" width=\"150\" height=\"142\" \/>Irene Peralta of Munchies magazine has a <a href=\"https:\/\/munchies.vice.com\/tag\/munchies-guide-to-the-basque-country\">five-part series on the food of the Basque Country<\/a>. In 5 roughly 15 minute videos, she covers the txokos of San Sebastian, the markets, and some of the best restaurants in the world. A great introduction to Basque cuisine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/51ERBzMF2UL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1234\" src=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/51ERBzMF2UL-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"51ERBzMF2UL\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Bego\u00f1a Echeverria is a professor at the University of California, Riverside, who has had a long interest in Basque culture and, more specifically, the world of Basque witches. Her researches led her down a path that has culminated in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pe.com\/articles\/echeverria-759417-basque-book.html\">novel<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Hammer-Witches-Historical-Novel\/dp\/1935709534\"><em>The Hammer of Witches<\/em><\/a>. Inspired in part by songs she heard as a child, the novel explores the life of a young woman in a small Basque town that has its share of mystery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-22-at-3.02.06-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1236\" src=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-22-at-3.02.06-PM-150x150.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-02-22 at 3.02.06 PM\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Canoe.ca has <a href=\"http:\/\/cnews.canoe.ca\/CNEWS\/Microgalleries\/2015\/01\/27\/22202966.html\">a series of photos of the ancient carnival of Ituren<\/a>, in which men dress up as bears and other mystical creatures, a carnival centered on sheepherding. Some anthropologists argue that it is the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ituren\">oldest pre-Indo-European carnival<\/a> still being practiced in Europe.\u00a0Regardless of the origins, the photos are simply fantastic.
