Having the highest melting point of any element, it is extremely hard and durable, used in light bulbs, x-ray tubes, as piercing armament, and catalysts. Tungsten is also proposed as an important material for ITER, the demonstration fusion reactor being built in France.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1340\" src=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/sello_189187-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"sello_189187\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/sello_189187-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/buber.net\/Basque\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/sello_189187.jpg 506w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The Elhuyar brothers were born in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Logro\u00f1o\">Logro\u00f1o<\/a>, La Rioja\u00a0(Juan in 1754 and Fausto in 1755) to French-Basque parents from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hasparren\">Hasparren<\/a>, France, in the Basque province of Lapurdi. Fausto, at least, became a professor at the University of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bergara\">Vergara<\/a> and later founded the School of Mines in Mexico City.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elhuyar.eus\/en\/site\/community\/nor-gara-en\/fundazioa-en\">Elhuyar Foundation<\/a> is dedicated to bringing together science and the Basque language.<\/p>\n<p>Tungsten, officially\u00a0known as wolfram, is a Swedish word that means &#8220;heavy stone&#8221; while wolfram means something like &#8220;wolf&#8217;s froth\/cream&#8221;, as a consequence of the\u00a0extraction process of a mineral containing tungsten.
