is a weekly serial. While it is a work of fiction, it has elements from both my own experiences and stories I’ve heard from various people. The characters, while in some cases inspired by real people, aren’t directly modeled on anyone in particular. I expect there will be inconsistencies and factual errors. I don’t know where it is going, and I’ll probably forget where it’s been. Why am I doing this? To give me an excuse and a deadline for some creative writing and because I thought people might enjoy it. She returned his smile. But it was immediately replaced by a frown. She hesitated a moment before whispering, \u201cGaruna?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A voice popped in her head, as if coming from a back corner of her mind, somewhat faint and distant. But there was no mistaking the emotionless tone that responded to her. \u201cI am here,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite sighed. She had hoped that the magic of the zatia would somehow have purged Garuna from her as she traveled back in time. But, she wasn\u2019t so lucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIs it there?\u201d asked Kepa anxiously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite nodded. \u201cIt is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat do we do now?\u201d asked Kepa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat do you mean? We\u2019re home now, until the next adventure,\u201d replied Maite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI mean, about Garuna. You have this massive intelligence from the future in your head. Won\u2019t that disrupt the timeline?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow do you mean?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoesn\u2019t it know things we aren\u2019t supposed to know? How history unfolds? What discoveries are to be made? Even how to make nuclear fusion a reality?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI guess that is true.\u201d Maite paused. \u201cGaruna?\u201d she asked. \u201cWho created you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flat voice popped back in her head. \u201cI was created by\u2026\u201d The voice fell silent. \u201cI cannot remember.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat did it say?\u201d asked Kepa impatiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite held up a finger, indicating him to sush. \u201cGaruna, what year was it that we just came back from?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was\u2026\u201d Again, the voice was silent. \u201cI cannot remember.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite turned to Kepa. \u201cGaruna has lost all memory of its own time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWow. Ok,\u201d replied Kepa. \u201cI guess that isn\u2019t a concern, then.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite nodded. \u201cWhile the zatia didn\u2019t erase Garuna from my mind, it did strip Garuna of all knowledge of the future. It will only know what it experiences from now going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, what now?\u201d asked Kepa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite smiled. \u201cI could really use a nice warm bath and then a night out with friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
