is a weekly serial. While it is a work of fiction, it has elements from both my own experiences and stories I’ve heard from various people. The characters, while in some cases inspired by real people, aren’t directly modeled on anyone in particular. I expect there will be inconsistencies and factual errors. I don’t know where it is going, and I’ll probably forget where it’s been. Why am I doing this? To give me an excuse and a deadline for some creative writing and because I thought people might enjoy it. \u201cShall we head to the plaza, then?\u201d asked Maite. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got to clean up, but I can meet you all in a little bit,\u201d replied Koldo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ll help,\u201d added Kepa. \u201cWe\u2019ll be there soon.\u201d He blew Maite a kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa started gathering the dishes and taking them to the sink as Maite and the others left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo,\u201d began Koldo as he filled the sink with water. \u201cYou and Maite? How serious are you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa blushed. \u201cSerious enough, I guess. We are thinking of moving in together if she goes to school in Donostia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Koldo smiled. \u201cI\u2019d always hoped you two would get together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh? Why is that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d shrugged Koldo. \u201cYou complement each other. She is so rational, so level-headed, and you are\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat, irrational and flighty?\u201d interjected Kepa, laughing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Koldo smiled. \u201cEz, ez. More of a risk taker, someone who dreams about the impossible. I always thought you could help lift Maite up as she does her work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa nodded. \u201cI can see that. Inspire her, in some way.\u201d His lips tightened into a small frown. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever be able to talk science with her, though. I worry she will get bored with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Koldo shook his head. \u201cShe\u2019ll have loads of people to talk science with. I wouldn\u2019t worry about that. What she will need is someone to talk about other things with. To distract her from all of that science stuff. To keep her grounded in the every day world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought I was going to inspire her!\u201d exclaimed Kepa, half jokingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBai, bai,\u201d nodded Koldo, \u201cbut you also need to give her a lifeline to every day life.\u201d He paused as he passed a dish to Kepa to dry. \u201cYou have a hard job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa laughed. \u201cI hope I can handle it. I\u2019d hate to get fired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust do what you are doing, I think you\u2019ll be fine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat about you?\u201d asked Kepa, shifting the focus away from him. \u201cAnyone special I should know about?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEz,\u201d replied Koldo emphatically. \u201cI\u2019ve got my music and my cooking. I don\u2019t have time for anything, or anyone, else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot even someone from the band?\u201d asked Kepa. \u201cI always imagined that band mates were especially close.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Koldo laughed. \u201cEz. We all have great chemistry. I don\u2019t want to mess that up by getting romantic with any of them. That\u2019s when things start to fall apart. Or egos. Egos are also bad for bands. No, I want to give the music and the cooking a real chance. Maybe after they have run their course, I\u2019ll consider settling down. But until then\u2026\u201d Koldo threw his head back, his long hair flipping over his head as he did an air guitar solo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa couldn\u2019t help but laugh. \u201cLet\u2019s go find the others,\u201d he said as he put the last dish in the cabinet. \u201cUnless you\u2019ve sworn off txikiteo too!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Koldo laughed again. \u201cInoiz ez! Never!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
