Damn, Seattle loses! Indy and New Orleans are my teams now. One game each til the Superbowl.
Well, the NFL-Idaho season ended about 2 weeks ago and I ended up in second place. Juggernuts just kept rolling and my team kept underperforming at the end of the year (or were they overperforming earlier?). At least the trading of Brees didn’t make any difference as, down the stretch, Vince Young played as well as Brees did.
I still have a good team going into next year, so I have a good shot at the championship next year. But, it’s again “Wait til next year.”
Now, it’s playoff time. We have a playoff in our league, but it isn’t as exciting, to me, as the regular season. The NFL playoffs, though, are going well for me so far. I like Indy and Seattle, who made it past their first round games and Indy beat the Ravens to get to the championship game. And I like San Diego too. No teams I really hate (except New England and maybe Chicago…)
There are only two weeks left in our Fantasy Football season, counting this week. Last week was the last chance to trade players. Each year we get to hold some players for the next year while the rest we put back into the pool for next year’s draft. I had both Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, the two top-scoring QBs in our league. What luck! Brees has been hotter than hell, second to only LT in points. So, not wanting to just give him to the pool and gaining nothing for him (Peyton, for better or worse, is my keeper), I decided to trade Brees away for a 4th round pick next year. The following day, he has his best game of the season, lighting up the Dallas D for something like 5 TDs and over 300 yards. Ugh! What’s worse is that I had a fairly comfortable lead over the second-place Juggernaut for first place in the league championship. My lead is now razor thin and if Juggernaut out performs me either of the two weeks coming up, my shot for the championship might be over.
I may have gotten too greedy, thinking I absolutely needed something for Brees (something beyond the league championship). I may have learned a valuable lesson this year. I still have a shot at winning, but the way my other “stars” are playing (i.e. Shaun Alexander), I may not get there.
All for want of a 4th Round Pick.
It’s been a while since I last posted anything and, as you’ll see, there are a lot of new posts today. I hope that this isn’t a trend, that I can update the blog just a bit more regularly, but life often gets in the way. I’ll do what I can.
The NFL season is already almost half over and the battle for the championship of the NFL-Idaho fantasy football league is in ernest. I currently hold the number one ranking in the league, but it has been a difficult struggle. My stars haven’t produced as they often have in the past. Peyton Manning started the season a little slow, but is fortunately now on fire. The same is true of Larry Johnson. He really hasn’t played like last season, though the last two games have seen him return to form. I’ve had two important injuries to Shaun Alexander, my star RB, and Larry Fitzgerald. Though, in Larry’s case, I’m not sure I would get much from him anyways because of the inept Cardinal offense.
I have had some good fortune though. Even when I’ve not performed as well as hoped, my opponent for the week has typically been even worse, giving me a 8-0 head-to-head record. And, while Juggernuts has scored more points overall, I’ve still got a better overall record than he does. But, he is right behind me, ready to take the lead at any moment.
I’ve also had some pleasant surprises in Drew Brees, the Minnesota Defense (excluding last week’s horrid performance), and Darrel Jackson. But, that’s been countered by Chad Johnson’s disappointing year.
Overall, though, I’m sitting pretty. I think there are trades afoot to try to overcome my first place ranking. We’ll see if the enemy is successful.
Last weekend we had our fantasy football draft for the NFL-Idaho league. I’m not sure how I turned out. We’ll see soon enough. Fortunately, I have a strong set of keepers, including Peyton Manning, Larry Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Shaun Alexander. But, being last to draft in the first few rounds (due to my winning the championship last year, so no complaints, really), most of the really good guys were gone before I got my first pick. But, I did grab Chad Johnson, much to the dismay of my little brother, so I should have strong WRs and RBs. But, my #2 QB is Kurt Warner, who may or may not have a great year. We’ll see.
Anyways, the NFL season is almost here! I’m excited for another year of fantasy football! And I’m ready to kick some ass!
