{"id":159,"date":"2008-10-04T09:27:17","date_gmt":"2008-10-04T15:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/?p=159"},"modified":"2008-10-04T09:27:17","modified_gmt":"2008-10-04T15:27:17","slug":"not-idiot-proof-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/?p=159","title":{"rendered":"Not idiot proof enough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/cuisinart-grind-brew-coffee-maker-large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-medium wp-image-160\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px; float: left;\" title=\"cuisinart-grind-brew-coffee-maker-large\" src=\"http:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/cuisinart-grind-brew-coffee-maker-large-187x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/cuisinart-grind-brew-coffee-maker-large-187x300.jpg 187w, https:\/\/buber.net\/Blah\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/cuisinart-grind-brew-coffee-maker-large.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 187px) 100vw, 187px\" \/><\/a>A little while ago, maybe 6 months or so, we got a new coffee maker, a Grind and Brew automatic coffee maker.\u00a0 The idea is nice: you fill the hopper on top with your beans, select your grind and strength, set the time you want the maker to brew your coffee, and away you go.\u00a0 Each night, you fill the resevoir with water and clean out the filter.\u00a0 Pretty simple.\u00a0 And it is definitely nice to wake up in the morning\u00a0 to a freshly brewed cup of coffee.<\/p>\n<p>However, I guess the engineers didn&#8217;t plan for an idiot of my caliber:\u00a0 three times now, the latest being on Thursday, I have woken up to a very powerful aroma of coffee.\u00a0 You might think that is a good thing, to wake up to such a great smell filling the house.\u00a0 But, for it to be that strong indicates that I have, yet again, forgotten to replace the carafe in the coffee maker.\u00a0 It is smart enough to have a stopper so that, when the carafe is not in place, it doesn&#8217;t let coffee out of the bottom of the filter.\u00a0 However, that only works for so long, as it doesn&#8217;t stop it from filling up the filter.\u00a0 If you brew enough coffee &#8212; more than just a cup or so &#8212; the filter fills up and coffee starts pouring out the top, down the side of the maker, onto the counter, down the cabinets, into the drawers (which, conveniently, are where we keep our wash cloths) and onto the floor.\u00a0 So, instead of waking to a nice pot of coffee, I awoke to a big mess to clean up as I rush off to work.
