The Basques are a group of people that live in northern Spain and southwest France, straddling the border where the Pyrenees Mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean. While no one is quite sure about their origins, the best theories place the Basques as one of the few remnants of the pre-Indo-European culture that existed in Europe before the Indo-European invasion that brought farming to the continent.
