ABOITIZ
This surname is found in Ondarroa.
Aboitiz comes from the root aboi (abai or arandano, which is a type of
berry like blueberry or huckleberry) and the suffix ti (abundance)
combined with iz or itz (a suffix which denotes location). So I suppose
the original home of this family may have been close to a large berry
patch or perhaps the family raised berries.
The coat of arms is a field of red on which a cross of gold (with equal
appendages) lies. At each corner there is a leaf of gold. The border is
silver with eight black ermine.
