ACHERITOGARAY (Axeritogarai) Philippe Oyhamburu says that Acherito, or Axerito, means "little fox", and he thinks that can be a nickname (were usual between basques to use animal names), or can bee "place with many foxes". GARAY or GARAI means High part. but we cannot mix both words to find the meaning of the surname, because the meaning is "The high house Axerito". There is other surname Acheritobehere, that means the Down house Axerito.

Kerexeta says that the origin is in Bizkaia (Bezi-Sopuerta). There exist in Bizkaia, also the surname Acherito (in Zalla). Kerexeta thinks that the meaning of ATXERI is Blackberry
