GAMINDE Jaime Kerexeta says in his Diccionario Onomastico y Heraldico
Vasco: In Bilbao. ESCUDO: En oro una barra de sinople.
In other book of Jaime kerexeta about Houses of Bizkaia, appears that there
is a House named Gaminde in a Small Village named MARURI (at 20 kmts of
Bilbao), so this house must be the origin of the surname because usually
basque surnames are names of houses, families took their names from the one
of their house.
Philippe Oyhanburu says in his Diccionary of Basque surnames than the
meaning of Gaminde can be: The high part of the mountain or hill, or also
can be mountain of deers, I think than the first aception is better, the
explanation of the meaning is: GAIN or GAN means over, or high part, and
Mendi means mountain or also hill, so both gives GANMENDI, and then Gaminde
The surname is documented in Bilbao since 1798
In 1704 the Owner of the Gaminde House of Maruri, was Antonio Gaminde, in
1745 was Juan Bautista Gaminde
R. Gaminde writes Please inform other gamindes that there are also gaminde here
