GARRO
In the French Basque country, in the Basque province of Behenavarra, there
is a castlle with the name "GARRO" located in the valley of Garro. This
surname was recordeded in Laburdi in the year 1000. There are families with
this name in Navarra (Elizondo and Tudela), in Bizkaia (Busturia and
Ondarroa) and in Gipuzkoa (various villages).
Possible meaning(s) of the name:
Some authoroties translate GARRO to mean "by flame", or "place of the
flame," but others think that it
it comes from ARRI, which means "of stone."
The above was polished by Grace A. Garro. Thanks!
