GOTXIKOA Basque surnames, use to be names of farms. Families took their
name from the one of the farm they live.
I have found farms (baserriak) with the name Gochicoa or Gotxikoa in
Orozko-Olarte, Zeanuri and Aracaldo, three villages of the Province of
Bizkaia (these farms appear in the census of the earlier XVIII). There are
Gochicoas families in the north part of the Province of Alava in a village
named Zigoitia, and also in the valey of Zuia in Alava too.
There was a prove of Nobility of a family Gotxikoa in the Court of
Valladolid (a special Court for basque affaires,in Spain) in 1780, this
prove of Nobility proves that a family Gotxikoa went to live in Spain or in
the American Domains, and they asked to have nobility privileges (to prove
Nobility was only necesary to prove to be basque).
Meaning of Gotxikoa: Gotxikoa is a variation of Goitikoa, the basque T many
times is pronounced as CH. GOITI means High, KO means of (like the saxon
genitive), and A is the article, so the meaning is THE ONE (HOUSE) OF THE
HIGH.
I haven't found any coat of arms.
