Intxauspe Or Insauspe

INTXAUSPE or INSAUSPE The meaning is " (The house) Down of the Walnut place". All basque surnames are names of farms (baserriak) or houses, and the families took the name of the house as surname.

I have found a farm with this surname in a village named XEMEIN, quarter of Atxondoa, Municipality of Markina in the province of Bizkaia, is called INSAUSPE, but in the census of Bizkaia of the XVIII there aren't families with this surname living in Xemein.

In 1746 there were a family with this surname in Amezketa, province of Gipuzkoa.

Jaime Kerexeta in his Diccionario Onomastico y Heraldico Vasco, says that is a surnmae of Gipuzkoa, but there is not any farm in Gipuzkoa with this name, so I think that the origin was Bizkaia and then they passed to Gipuzkoa and also to the French Basque country, I have read about families surnamed INTCHAUSPE in Iparralde (Basque -French).
