LEGORRETA
This surname is found in Legorreta, called Legorreta-zarra (the old
Legorreta), and in Tolosa, as well as the vicinity of Lekeriketa in
Elorrio.
The meaning is "deserted place" or "place in the desert" from Legon
(meaning dry or barren) and the suffix -eta (indicating location or
place).
This name is a variation of the surname Legarreta.
The house of Legorreta-zarra has a coat of arms including three
horizontal bands across a field of silver. It has eight black ermine
distributed four on the top and four on the bottom. The border is
divided into eight sections alternating red and gold, and each red
section contains a gold aspa ("x").
