OŅATE
Originally of Oņate, Guipuzcoa where at first it was called
the house of Izurrategui and later house of Antuena. It is a
lineage that proceeds from Garibay since they share the same
coat of arms.
This name means "paso de la colina" (a narrow passage
between the hills). It comes from "oin" (hill) and "ate"
(narrow pass or small door or entry).
According to a heraldic certification of 1483, the arms are
as follows:
A deer, in the attitude of running, in a field of wheat with
an eagle (or a crow or a vulture) on its hindquarters with
it's wings outstretched.
