YZNAGA/IZNAGA: It is documented that in 1374 a man called Ochoa de Iznaga was
"Cofrade of San Andres" in Segura (Gipuzkoa). In the same document there is
another man named Juan de Izaga, so I think that probably this is the same
surname, because I cannot find any house with the name Iznaga in Bizkaia or
Gipuzkoa (surnames in Bizk. and Gip. are always names of houses), and there
are Izaga houses in both Provinces. There was also an Iznaga Family in
Amorebieta (Bizkaia).
Coat of Arms: En azul, un castillo de su color natural, con una bandera en
su torre de homenaje
Meaning: Is not very clear but I think is willowy place, rattan place (Lugar de Juncos).
Jorge Iznaga has sent me quite a bit of information about the Iznaga line. First, he has placed much of his genealogy on this rootsweb page.
He also has some photos here.
Finally, he shares this PDF of his genealogy. If anyone would like to get in touch with Jorge, he can be reached at izzy1911@comcast.net.
Eskerrik asko, Jorge!
