ZORNOZA
This is from the Diccionario Onomastico y Heraldico of J. Kerexeta.
This names appears in Amorebieta and Bilbao (Bizkaia) and in the Valley
of Oiarzun (Gipuzkoa). According to Lopez Mendizabal, it means
"zarzal". There are many proofs of nobility by people with this name.
Most probably Zornoza comes from Amorebieta (Bizkaia) since the other
name of this town is Zornoza or Zornotza. Caserios with this name (Zornoza)
appear in Amorebieta and also in Balmaseda (this last one would be a branch
derived from the other). There are also caserios with this name in
Gipuzkoa.
About the meaning, nothing is known. Mitxelena doesn't say anything
about this surname and that which Lopez Mendizabal says has very little
value.
