LETAMENDI I suposse that the origin of this surname is the House
LETOMENDI, located in Arrazua, a little village very close to Gernika.
There are a lot of Letamendi and Letamendias in Gipuzkoa and also in
Nabarra. In Gipuzkoa there is a Prove of Nobility of a man surnamed
Letamendi in Onate 1775.
Meaning: MENDI is Mount, and LETA, well is very difficult to know,
Mitxelena says that he don't know, and the only serious theory that I have
read about LETA says that can be a kind of Pine tree.
Coat of Arms: En plata un brazo vestido de gules, moviente del flanco
dietro, sosteniendo en la mano un rosario del mismo color.
