Merkatua: Basque Vendors and Merchants

If you are a Basque merchant or you sell Basque-themed merchandise and would like your business listed here, just let me know!

Basque Beans Coffee

Basque Beans Coffee is inspired by rich traditions and bold flavors. Our coffee is roasted in small, frequent batches based on customer demand—not warehouse stock—so your order is always fresh and never sitting on a shelf. Because each batch is roasted to order, please allow 1–5 business days before your coffee ships. Once on the way, delivery typically takes 1–5 business days via USPS Ground, depending on location. Every order includes tracking, which is automatically sent to you as soon as it’s updated.

The Basque House

Etxea: A place where multi-generational families live, join, thrive and love. My goal is to produce heirloom textiles to be passed on through generations; all the while celebrating the Basque home and those who live and love the Basque culture.

I am third-generation Basque raised with the appreciation of the USA in my family’s story. My mother spent one year in Spain with the first Boise-Spain program offered in Onati. My attempt at Basque language school in Lazkao was an eye-opening experience! Although I did not master the language – – I learned far more during evening paseos and eating pintxos!

The Basque Market

Established in December 2000, The Basque Market is a cornerstone of the Basque Block in Downtown Boise, Idaho. We’re best known for our Basque catering—especially our giant paellas, sometimes prepared for 800 guests or more! Craving more? Our menu features a delicious array of modestly sized pintxos and tapas, perfect for sharing anytime. And if you’re looking for a unique gift, a special bottle of wine, or your own Basque and Spanish cooking essentials, shop the Market—it’s an international adventure!

Zoe Bray

Zoe Bray is the author and illustrator of ‘What Amatxi Whispered,’ the story of a child of immigrants navigating different cultures and places. She wrote this book during the COVID lockdown in 2021 as so many poignant problems in the world came to the fore. Bray was then in Reno, attempting to lead a serene life, out in nature with her two small children. The story is an ode to nature and indigenous cultures everywhere, inspiring children to connect wherever they are.

Carina Barajas Art

An artist of Mexican and Basque descent, living in Salt Lake City, Carina Barajas has been interested in drawing and painting from a young age. She sells Basque artwork, prints, cards, and stickers. She sells both online and at some festivals – for example, she was at Jaialdi. Carina also works on commission paintings, digital illustrations, and murals for various clients.

Ederra Mosaics

Diana Echeverria is the artist behind Ederra Mosaics. She lives in Boise, Idaho and has been very involved in her Basque culture since she was a teen; having been in the Oinkari Basque Dancers, a member of the Board of Directors for the Basque Museum & Cultural Center and a long-time Euzkaldunak member.

When her oldest son got engaged, she wanted to make an extra special wedding gift. What was supposed to be a “one and done” piece of art turned into a small business with each one-of-a kind piece created by hand. To check out her functional mosaic pieces, go to her Etsy shop. Now’s the perfect time to purchase a Christmas gift for your loved ones or simply for yourself.

Euskal Souvenirs

EUSKAL SOUVENIRS is a store specializing in the sale of products related to the culture of Gernika and Euskal Herria, including gift items and souvenirs. The business, which began in 1993, is not just another gift shop but rather something different, a gift shop related to the Basque Country, a shop where you can find products related to the Ikurriña, the lauburu and all the rest of the culture of Euskal Herria.

Santa Fe Basque Restaurant and Bar

The original location in the Santa Fe Hotel in Downtown Fresno, built in 1927, which served as a boarding house for newly arrived immigrants, specifically those from the Basque Country. Through the years, the hotel evolved into a full service restaurant. In 1990, first-generation Basque-Americans, Jean Pierre and Manuela Etchechury purchased the business from Jean Baptiste and Yvette Bidegaray, whom moved the business from the Santa Fe Hotel to its current location in 2001. We work hard to provide our customers with traditional and contemporary Basque-American food, to perpetuate the Basque culture, to educate others about the Basques, and to offer an enjoyable home-away-from-home atmosphere for our wonderful customers.

Trastienda Market

At Trastienda Market we dreamed about bringing the delicacies of our land at its finest straight to your door. Today, that possibility is a tangible reality. We can help you delve into the unique culinary experience of Spain. Our name, like many of our products, comes from the depths of our culture – “La trastienda” is the name used for that little room or pantry at the back of the stores in the Spanish markets, where the best of the best was hidden. Today at Trastienda, we have found and curated unique items from all over the Iberian Peninsula, and we have put together an exclusive catalog of delicacies that offers you the possibility of becoming that special customer with special access.
